University of Enna Kore and synbrAIn: A Prolific Collaboration for Technological Innovation

The collaboration between UNIKORE and synbrAIn demonstrates that the transfer of technology from academic research to industry leads to tangible and innovative results

Artificial Intelligence

Palermo, 07/19/2024 – The Master's degrees in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Cybersecurity awarded by the University of Enna Kore are the result of years of research and innovation activities. Today, this makes the Sicilian University the first in all of Sicily to confer this university degree.

One of the first graduates of the course is Riccardo Russo, who conducted his internship at synbrAIn, subsequently developing it into a thesis titled “Generative AI for Question-Answering with Large Language Models: Techniques of Retrieval Augmented Generation and Vulnerability Management.” His work, supervised by Prof. Salvatore Sorce (already a collaborator at our company) together with co-supervisor and synbrAIn's corporate tutor, Eng. Vito Gentile, focused on advanced techniques for the interaction between Large Language Models (LLM) and large knowledge bases through a technique known as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). Dr. Russo also focused on techniques to improve the security of these tools, analyzing various solutions to reduce issues such as LLM hallucinations, jailbreak prevention, and generating responses to off-topic questions.

The evaluation of these techniques was central to his thesis, demonstrating promising results and the need for continuous research to refine and develop these technologies.

This achievement stems from an important and long-standing collaboration between the University of Enna Kore and synbrAIn, which over the years has built a significant example of how the transfer of technology from academic research to industry (and vice versa) can lead to tangible and innovative results. This is not the first collaboration: in the past, synbrAIn has been involved as an industrial partner in university research projects, and CEO Roberto Pagani has been included in the advisory board of the Master's degree course in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Cybersecurity at UNIKORE. All this contributes to a constant interaction between industry and academia, bringing innovation to synbrAIn's products and providing important feedback for updating study programs to meet the emerging needs of local businesses.

synbrAIn continues to create a collaborative environment to promote research in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, exploring new technological frontiers. Our national and international collaborations with academic institutions, such as UNIKORE, are fundamental to keeping the company at the forefront of innovation in emerging technologies. These partnerships allow us not only to transfer our knowledge but also to develop proof of concepts and explore new areas of research, reinforcing our commitment to technological progress and continuous innovation.
